Transitional Improvements: Helping Homeless & Formerly Incarcerated Grocery Store Shooting; 1 Injured, 1 in Custody

A chaotic incident unfolded in a Target parking lot during a child custody exchange, leading to a police pursuit, a crash, and a woman being run over and left injured on the pavement. The distressing video of the incident was shown on KTLA news.

Now, we have an exclusive interview with a friend of the foster mother, who is currently recovering from injuries. April Barnes shares that the child’s biological mother refused to return him to his foster parents deliberately ran over the foster mother with a truck.

Law enforcement officers responded by firing their weapons at the woman, who then led them on a pursuit. Barnes expresses her disbelief and shock, recounting the moment when she was run over.

On that day, she was assisting her friend, who was the foster parent of a 5-year-old boy. When they arrived to pick him up, the child’s mother, My Scott, adamantly refused to return him after a scheduled visitation, claiming to be suicidal and armed.

Barnes and her friend immediately called 911 for assistance, while LAPD body camera footage captured the entire ordeal. Scott eventually agreed to give the child back after officers contacted the Department of Children and Family Services. As she got into her truck to leave, Barnes requested the case number so they could reference it later.

However, before she could finish her request, Scott charged towards them, ran over Barnes, and then embarked on a five-minute pursuit that ended with her crashing into a tree and being apprehended by the police. Barnes was rushed to a nearby hospital and has been experiencing excruciating pain ever since. Nevertheless, her primary concern remains the welfare of the traumatized little boy who witnessed the entire incident unfold from a nearby car. Barnes hopes that he will have a fair and healthy upbringing despite the distressing events.

She also expresses her love for him and emphasizes the importance of the police learning from this incident, as Scott had threatened to harm them in front of the officers, indicating that she posed a significant threat. Barnes questions why Scott was allowed to get into her car and drive away, hoping that it was not policy to allow such behavior.

My Scott now faces charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon on an officer..
