Caltrans Geologists Work to Prevent Landslides Along California Roadways
Caltrans geologists are currently working on a dozen projects aimed at preventing landslides and mudslides along California roadways following a series of storms.
Landslides can happen without warning, causing blocked roadways, property destruction, and endangering homes.
To prevent future disasters, Caltrans engineers are designing retaining systems and plans to retain soil and prevent saturation.
Drones are also being used for a bird’s eye view, while advanced mapping software helps pinpoint likely landslide locations.
Caltrans estimates it has about a dozen projects in the Bay Area alone aimed at preventing future landslides.
