A man suspected of holding a woman hostage at the Brentwood Garden Apartments in California was injured in a shootout with police on Sunday night.
The incident occurred after someone reported that the woman was being held against her will.
When officers arrived at the scene, they heard gunshots and found the suspect and the victim outside the apartment.
The suspect, a 30-year-old from Long Beach, allegedly fired several shots at the officers before they returned fire.
Both the suspect and the victim were taken to the hospital with injuries but are expected to survive.
Several unoccupied vehicles were also hit by bullets.
The incident is under investigation by the authorities.
