Doctors in Boston have made a medical breakthrough by performing brain surgery on a baby girl who was still in the womb.

The baby’s mother, Kenyatta, was 30 weeks pregnant when an ultrasound revealed that her baby, Denver, had a rare condition with a 40% mortality rate.

The girl’s brain and heart were enlarged, which prompted doctors at Boston Children’s Hospital to conduct a first-of-its-kind procedure and take her into the operating room.

Using a catheter, doctors carefully reached a malformation in Denver’s brain, and the surgery was a success.

Denver was born two days later and is said to be thriving thanks to the doctors in Boston.
