Tragic news has emerged from Clark County, as the bodies of missing Vancouver mother, Meshay Melendez, and her daughter, Layla Stewart, have been discovered.
The pair went missing earlier this month, with Melendez’s ex-boyfriend, Kirkland Warren, currently in custody.
The bodies were found by a member of the public who had been walking on a rural road in Washougal and had described what they believed to be two life-sized mannequins down an embankment near a creek.
Upon investigation, authorities identified the bodies as Melendez and Stewart, based on unique genetic markings.
The major crimes unit is now handling the investigation as a homicide.
Kirkland Warren remains a person of interest in the case and was arrested earlier this month on domestic violence charges against Melendez.
The family has asked for privacy while they process and grieve, with a memorial fund to be set up for the two funerals.
The news has sent shock and grief throughout the community.
