A brush fire has erupted in Rockland County due to sparks coming off a CSX train passing through Clarkstown, officials said.

The fire has spread quickly through the dry brush, threatening homes in towns around Haverstraw, Congress, and Stony Point.

Firefighters are battling the blaze as freight train traffic in the area has been stopped and people are being told to avoid the area.

The state is sending reinforcements to assist in the firefighting efforts.
