The investigation into Athena Brownfield’s death began in November of 2022 when authorities were called to a home in Grady County where Athena was found unresponsive.

She was rushed to a hospital but died soon after.

The investigation revealed that the child had suffered from neglect and abuse, which ultimately led to her death.

It was determined that Jasmine Brownfield had left Athena in the care of the Adamses, who were not qualified to take care of a child with special needs.

The Adamses have also been charged with child neglect and enabling child abuse.

The case is ongoing, and the state has vowed to seek justice for Athena Brownfield.
