Transitional Improvements: Helping Homeless & Formerly Incarcerated Grocery Store Shooting; 1 Injured, 1 in Custody

A stylist with an impressive client list, including celebrities like Michael B. Jordan, Joel Embiid, and Lady Gaga, is using his skills to help kids.

Alongside a team of barbers, he provided fresh haircuts to students at Boys’ Latin of Philadelphia Middle School. This act goes beyond looking good – it also helps the students feel good.

During this time of the school year, students strive to look their best and receive compliments on their fresh cuts, a rarity for many in the area. Kenny Duncan, who has been cutting hair for nearly 25 years, remembers the impact of not having a great haircut on picture day as a child.

He now aims to prevent other kids from experiencing the same feeling. Through his organization, Barbers Who Care, Duncan and a group of photographers and barbers work together to create memorable moments for the students.

They provide free haircuts to these boys throughout the year, aiming to build a relationship with them and make them feel seen. The event is not just about the physical aspect of a fresh haircut, but also the conversations that take place during the process.

The barbers engage in impactful conversations with the young men, who they believe are the future. Duncan emphasizes the importance of making these boys feel acknowledged and ensuring that they know someone sees them.

This event not only boosts the students’ confidence but also provides a therapeutic experience. Duncan plans to hold three more of these confidence-boosting haircut sessions at Boys’ Latin of Philadelphia Middle School throughout the school year..
