Bernalillo County, New Mexico – A man has died after an altercation with a Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) deputy on Sunday morning.

According to reports, deputies had been called to a house in the South Valley for a welfare check.

When they arrived, they were confronted by a man with a knife, which led to one deputy shooting the man.

The individual was pronounced dead on the scene.

Multiple cars from various agencies, including BCSO, APD, and New Mexico State Police, were present during the investigation.

The family of the man was also on the scene and expressed confusion and upset by what happened.

The man’s father stated that his son was a former veteran who suffered from mental health issues.

The deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
