Baltimore City Police have announced the arrest of a suspect in the killing of 16-year-old Izaiah Carter earlier this month.
The suspect has been identified as 23-year-old Roger Mendoza, who was apprehended in Texas with the help of the public.
The police say that Mendoza had attempted to flee the country before his arrest.
The victim was fatally shot in a park near Patterson High School, where he was a student.
Mendoza has a criminal record, including a 2018 arrest for first-degree burglary in Baltimore City.
The police are working to extradite Mendoza back to Baltimore for his trial.
This incident marks the seventh killing of a Baltimore City Schools student this year, and the police are calling it another tragic example of the city’s crime crisis.
