After being closed for more than a year due to safety concerns and issues with homeless encampments, the Ballard Commons Park in Seattle is set to officially reopen this weekend.
The park has undergone major improvements during the closure, including better lighting, more trees, and additional benches.
The city of Seattle responded to over 40 issues at the park in 2021, including tent fires and assault calls.
However, with the completion of improvement projects, the park is now ready to provide an inviting environment for the community to enjoy.
To celebrate the reopening, the city is hosting a free event today and tomorrow, with food trucks, lawn games, and live music.
The city is also continuing construction on the play area and plans to have it completed later this year.
