Ballard Commons Park in Seattle is set to officially reopen today after being closed for over a year.
The park was closed in December 2021 due to safety issues and homeless encampments.
Following over a year of improvement projects, the park is ready to welcome back visitors with upgraded lighting, more trees, and additional benches.
The park was closed due to public safety concerns, with more than 40 issues reported over six months, including tent fires and assault calls.
The city has been working on improving the park over the last 15 months, and a welcome back celebration is being held today and tomorrow from noon to 6 pm, with food trucks, lawn games, and live music.
The event is free and open to anyone who wants to see the changes made to the park over the last year.
