Welcome to Lena News! In breaking news today, a Russian soldier was tragically killed when the trench he had dug for protection against Ukrainian attacks became his grave.
The soldier was attempting to hide from Ukrainian forces but something went wrong and a Ukrainian drone dropped a bomb on him, causing him to lose his life on the spot.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched his “special military operation” against Ukraine on February 24th, 2022.
Although the Kremlin initially aimed for a quick military victory, Ukraine responded with stronger-than-expected defense efforts, supported by Western military aid, weakening Russian efforts.
After over a year of conflict, Russia still struggles to make progress, with fighting continuing in eastern Ukraine.
Following Ukraine’s counteroffensive last fall, which saw them retake thousands of square miles of previously occupied territory, Russia began launching missile strikes against Ukrainian civilian areas and vital infrastructure, including energy facilities, in an attempt to add pressure to force Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to agree to end the war.
