There are reports that a man with a gun has been arrested near the US capital. Jo O’Brien is on the scene reporting for us.
The Capitol Police arrested the suspect in a park near Union Station, close to a Senate Office Building and about a block away from the capital. The suspect was found to have a firearm, although it is not known what type. Capitol Police have confirmed the arrest and are searching the suspect’s belongings.
The suspect was apprehended with the use of a taser and is currently in custody. There was also a suspicious package alert in the park, but it is unclear if it is related to the arrest.
Capitol Police have stated that there is no immediate threat, but they will provide updates on any further developments. Access to the area is restricted due to the heavy police presence.
