Here in Washington DC, a man was arrested by police for carrying a weapon. Mark Meredith is reporting from the scene. The incident occurred just outside the US Senate Office Buildings in a park between the Capitol and Union Station, the main train station in DC. The suspect is currently in a white police car labeled “US Capital Police” as officers search his personal belongings.
Capitol Police received reports of a man with a gun, possibly a rifle, and were able to apprehend him after a foot chase. Security in the area is always heightened, especially given the high pedestrian traffic from people going to and from Union Station. It is unclear whether the suspect arrived by car or on foot. While there may be a thorough search of the area, it appears that this incident involved only one person.
The suspect is currently being interviewed, and there is no information regarding his motive or any specific threat to the US Capitol..
