Environmental scientists predict a potentially spectacular wildflower season in Arizona this year.

The current blooming, which experts have dubbed a “super bloom,” is evident across the state with an abundance of flowers in various colors including purple, yellow, red, and apricot mallow.

Although the super bloom is still in its early stages, hikers are already excited to see the flowers creeping up the ridges of South Mountain.

According to Teresa Crimmins of the University of Arizona School of Natural Resources, the super bloom is a sign of the likelihood of a serious wildfire season and a clue to the severity of allergies this year.
