Los Reyes Market in South Bakersfield was targeted by thieves who installed a “skimmer” device on one of their credit card machines earlier this week.

A skimmer is a card reader that can be disguised to look like part of the card machine and can obtain a customer’s information which can lead to fraud.

The store owner, Ceci Gonzalez, said three people came into the store and distracted the cashier while one of them installed the device.

After being notified of the crime, Gonzalez immediately reported it to the Bakersfield Police Department, and two of the thieves were caught and arrested.

However, there is still one out there, and Gonzalez wants to remind other store owners and their staff to be aware of skimmers and to contact the Bakersfield Police Department immediately if they suspect they have been a victim of this type of fraud.
