Lone Peak sophomore Aadyn Long emerged victorious in the 6A girls’ high school golf state championship, clinching the individual title and leading her team to consecutive state championships.
Long’s impressive performance in the final round included birdies on the last three holes, securing her a remarkable win.
The tournament began with Lone Peak freshman City Wagner holding a one-shot lead heading into the second round.
However, several other players remained in contention during the final round, notably Shun from American Fork and Remy Rollins from Weber.
Aadyn Long, who finished as the runner-up last year as a freshman, was also in the mix.
At various points during the back nine, all four players held a share of the lead.
Wagner managed to birdie the 14th hole, tying Long at one over par.
But it was Aadyn Long who stole the spotlight with a spectacular finish.
After narrowly missing birdie opportunities on the previous three holes, she birdied the 16th to claim a one-shot lead.
Long continued her remarkable run, sinking another birdie on the 17th hole.
Finally, on the 18th hole, she sealed her victory by rolling in her third consecutive birdie, completing her round with an impressive score of 68 and finishing the tournament at two under par.
She ended three shots ahead of Wagner.
Aadyn Long’s triumph also propelled Lone Peak to secure back-to-back state championships, adding to the team’s celebrations.
