A 9-year-old girl is in stable condition in the hospital after being shot in the back in broad daylight in Washington, DC.
The incident happened on Sunday evening on Shipping Lane SE, where witnesses say they saw someone inside a car shooting towards another car, the girl riding in the back seat.
The two adults that were inside the car with the girl did not realize she had been struck by gunfire until they were a mile away.
Neighbors where the shooting occurred are outraged by how brazen the crime was, with nearby children playing and families having Sunday cookouts.
DC police have provided a very vague description of the suspect involved in this incident, only describing him as a man wearing a ski mask driving a dark sedan.
