A worker on an excavator fell into a quarry in St.
Lucie County, Florida after the ground gave way, according to the worker’s family.
The victim is a 42-year-old father of three who had been working for Vulcan Materials for several years and had recently been promoted to management.
The quarry is about 35 feet deep with murky water, making it difficult for divers to search.
The search began yesterday but was called off due to the conditions, and it is continuing today with the help of the Martin St.
Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, the Mine Safety and Health Administration, and representatives from Vulcan Materials.
The victim has not yet been recovered, and officials are working to recover both him and the equipment.
Vulcan Materials is the nation’s largest supplier of construction aggregates and has quarries throughout the southeast.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
