32-year-old man charged with murder for fatal stabbing of 17-year-old boy
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office has charged David Zapata with the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Xavier Chavarin in El Sereno last week.
Zapata faces charges of murder, attempted murder, and assault with a deadly weapon.
If convicted, he could face up to 40 years to life in prison.
Xavier Chavarin was a promising young man with a bright future ahead of him, and his death has been a great loss to the community.
Zapata was taken into custody after an hour-long standoff at his home in Alhambra earlier this week.
Police are still searching for a second suspect who was believed to be a passenger in Zapata’s car at the time of the attacks.
