A 24-year-old man accused of shooting four people, killing one, in the waiting room of a medical facility in Atlanta, faced a judge earlier today.

Dion Patterson, a Coast Guard veteran, was arrested in neighboring Cobb County on Wednesday, eight hours after the first 911 calls came in.

According to a law enforcement source, Patterson became agitated while waiting for an appointment and opened fire with a handgun.

The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation, and it is unclear whether Patterson’s mental health played a role.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens expressed concern over the national epidemic of gun violence and called for immediate action.

One of the victims, a CDC employee named Amy Sample, died in the attack, while the other four were hospitalized.

Northside Hospital Medical Facility, where the shooting occurred, will be closed for the time being.
