A tragic incident unfolded in west Houston on Sunday night, as a 2-year-old boy lost his life after being hit by a car.

According to Houston police, the accident occurred on Ranchester Drive, near Bel Air Boulevard and Gessner.

Authorities were alerted to the scene, and Maria Aguilera from Kaiju 11 News arrived to report on the situation.

Investigators revealed that the toddler was playing in the parking lot of an apartment complex when he was struck by a vehicle.

The incident took place around 7:30 PM.

Apparently, the car was in reverse when it hit the child before leaving the scene.

Although the mother was present, she claimed not to have witnessed the accident.

In a surprising turn of events, the driver responsible for the collision later returned to the scene, unaware of what had transpired.

The individual is now in custody, but investigators have yet to confirm definitively if they were the one who struck the child.

Due to the absence of witnesses, further examination is required to establish the exact sequence of events.

Tragically, the young boy succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Texas Children’s Hospital.

As the investigation remains ongoing, the police presence and active scene persist in Southwest Houston.

Maria Aguilera assured that more information will be provided as it becomes available.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and caution in areas where children may be present.
