A 19-year-old was discovered dead in an apartment in Acworth on Wednesday morning in what appears to be a home invasion shooting, according to local police.
The victim has been identified as Aidan Kane Shaw, and authorities have been conducting an investigation since early morning.
Residents in the gated apartment complex where the incident occurred are in shock and seeking answers about the tragic event.
Troy Reek, a neighbor, recounted hearing six rapid gunshots that quickly unsettled him.
He promptly dialed 911 and later learned that his neighbor had been fatally shot.
Reek expressed fear, stating that such incidents are becoming increasingly frequent and alarming.
The Acworth Police received a call around 3:00 a.m.
reporting a possible home invasion at a unit in Building 5 of the Walden Ridge apartment complex.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the deceased male.
Witnesses suggested the involvement of multiple suspects, and now the victim’s unit is sealed off with a wooden board.
John Pena, who resides nearby, mentioned hearing people talking followed by a loud bang resembling an object being dropped.
He noted that the victim had two playful puppies, whose activities he was accustomed to during the night.
Pena, trying to ignore the disturbances, chose to put on his headphones.
Another neighbor, Dennis, recently spoke to the victim about noise issues but never expected something as tragic as this to occur.
He expressed disbelief at the incident, highlighting the young age of the victim and his respectful demeanor.
While the police have not officially confirmed the victim’s identity, the community is deeply disturbed by the event, as they believed their neighborhood to be safe.
Authorities have reassured residents that this was an isolated incident and poses no ongoing danger to others.
Initial evidence suggests that this may have been a targeted attack.
Neighbors mentioned that the victim had recently moved into the complex.
However, due to the shooting, Reek is now making plans to relocate to a safer place.
Acworth police have not yet identified any leads on the suspect or suspects involved in the crime.
They are reviewing surveillance footage from the neighborhood and urge anyone with information to contact them.
The community remains shaken by the tragedy, and residents are hoping for swift justice and increased security measures.
