The 10th Annual “Hugs Not Walls” event was held on Saturday, allowing families to reunite and embrace each other for a few precious minutes.
Over 100 families took part in the event, which took place in the middle of the Rio Grande, with some capturing the moments on camera.
Many were moved to tears of joy at the opportunity to hold their loved ones a little bit tighter.
One family, who had not seen their parents for nearly 15 years, traveled from California to be a part of the event.
Despite the stress of being so close to the border, they were grateful for the chance to share an act of love and humanity, even if only for one day.
The event highlights the ongoing debate surrounding the US immigration system and the Texas National Guard’s deployment of barbed wire along the border.
